I bought this fedora as a replacement for one that I wore over a summer in Italy. The original was crushed while going through customs on my way back. I had to buy a replacement because I had shaved my head and it kept me warm.

Tray 3 months
I bought this tray to carry dinner out to my porch so my then-boyfriend and I could eat outside in the summer. Ever since I got it it’s been used to carry around paper for a project from table to table in my apartment. At least it’s been useful for something.
Curtains 6 years
I bought these curtains at a time when having cohesive decor in my apartment seemed both important and possible. The idea as well as the curtains seem absurd to me now.
Bud Vase 10 years
I bought this as a gift for a friend. However, the occasion passed and I never mailed it. Now it reminds me of her and I think every year I will give it to her for Christmas.

I have had several of these since being introduced to them when traveling abroad in college. Every so often I have to buy a new one because the old one gets too run down. As one of my friends says, “They try to return to the earth.”
Bamboo Bowl 10 years
I got this bowl at a Christmas swap. It is from a charity shop that supports women’s relief work in Asia. I use it as a fruit bowl.

I have had a multitude of coffee makers since my first job in a coffee shop at age 15. I got this French press after visiting my sister in New York City and using hers for the first time. I remember stirring the grounds with a chop stick in her tiny college apartment.
Necklace 6 years
I bought this necklace on sale at Urban Outfitters just before my father was in a near fatal motorcycle accident. I remember wearing it while talking to the doctor about whether my father would survive. He did and now the necklace reminds me of how close my family has remained since that time.
Candle Holder 10 years
I got this from a dear friend of mine who often buys me trinkets for which I have no space. This, however, has always been a favorite of mine because of the atmosphere it creates. It has had a prominent place in seven different apartments.
Faux Taxidermy Cat 12 years
My mom got this for me at a flea market. I love when people see it for the first time. When I was in college my roommate and I mounted it to the wall. It is one of my favorite possessions.
The Elephant’s Journey 6 months
I read this book because it was the inspiration for a project I was involved with in Italy. I did not like the book but I ended learning some trapeze skills for the project in Tuscany.
Incense Burner 8 years
This was a prop from the theatre set design I did for the show St. Joan with Firenza Guidi at Butler University.I was raised as a Protestant Christian, so religious incense burning was a revelation for me at the time. I think it’s a beautiful object and it reminds me of how much I enjoyed that project and the people I met while doing it. butler

I got these shoes for a show I did in Italy. After the trip I accidentally left them there with the director for four years. I retrieved them when I went back this past summer. They are nearly impossible to walk in but they look fabulous.
Lips Brooch 6 years
I bought this pin in the lobby of a hospital in North Carolina. My Dad was in the ICU there after being in a motorcycle accident that left him paralyzed. At that point we did not know whether he would live. The hospital was having a jewelry sale fundraiser. Everything was five dollars.
